A Daily Routine for Curly Hair
Build a low-effort daily and weekly routine for curly hair — cleansing, moisture, styling, and refreshing curls between washes.

Curly hair thrives on moisture and consistency, not on doing more. A good routine is mostly about protecting the curl pattern and keeping hydration in.
The core principles
- Curls are naturally drier than straight hair — the scalp's oils travel down the strand more slowly. Moisture is the priority.
- Less friction, less frizz. Rough towels and cotton pillowcases rough up the cuticle.
- Define when wet. Curls set in the shape you leave them in as they dry.
A daily routine
- Refresh, don't rewash. On non-wash days, mist curls with water (or a water + leave-in mix) and scrunch to revive the shape.
- Add moisture with a small amount of leave-in on the mid-lengths and ends.
- Don't brush dry curls — it breaks the pattern and causes frizz. Detangle only when wet and coated with conditioner.
A weekly routine
- Cleanse 1–3 times a week depending on how dry your hair is. Use a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser or co-wash.
- Deep condition once a week to rebuild moisture.
- Style on soaking-wet hair: apply product, scrunch, and let curls clump.
Styling and drying
- Apply stylers to very wet hair for the best definition.
- Scrunch out excess water with a microfibre towel or cotton t-shirt.
- Air-dry, or diffuse on low heat without disturbing the curls.
- Once fully dry, scrunch out the "cast" (the crunchy gel layer) for soft, defined curls.
Protecting curls overnight
Sleep on a silk/satin pillowcase, or loosely gather curls into a "pineapple" on top of your head to preserve the shape.
Consistency beats complexity — a few gentle habits will do more than a shelf of products.
